Home > Applications > Viral Infections > Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)AS101 was proven to be an anti-viral agent in a recent clinical trial, studying the effect of AS101 on cutaneous viral warts caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), most commonly located on the skin and genitalia. The AS101 cream was found to be an effective topical therapy for HPV genital warts characterized by a relatively short duration of treatment, minimal side-effects and a lower recurrence rate1. The safety and efficacy of topical application of AS101 cream was studied recently in an open label, multi-center clinical trial for genital warts. Topical application of AS101 cream twice daily resulted in complete cure in a high percentage of patients: 56 (75.7%) of 74 enrolled patients. In vulvar Condyloma, 35 (79.5%) of 44 cases achieved complete cure. In perianal Condyloma, complete cure was achieved in 21 (70%) of 30 cases. No scarring of treated areas was observed. The median time to achieve complete cure was 42 days (range 10-109 days). Recurrent Condyloma was noted in two cases only (3.6%): on days 105 and 144 after treatment cessation. In conclusion, AS101 15%w/w cream is an effective topical therapy for external genital warts. |
